Julio’s Italian Restaurant, an established local eatery for the last [36] years, offers delicious Italian meals and exceptional service. The longevity and popularity of Julio’s Italian Restaurant can be attributed to the history and hard work of its owner, Julio Rodriguez.

Rodriguez was literally born into the business. His mother gave birth to him in her restaurant in Peru. “That’s what they tell me,” he confirms with a smile. Rodriguez began his career as a waiter at the age of 12, taking care of customers at his mother’s side in South America. He says he quickly learned the difference between being a “waiter” versus just a “server” and applied it to his trade. Rodriguez never liked to say “I don’t know” to his patrons. He wanted to be informed about how dishes were made and took the time to get to know his customers.

Rodriguez later emigrated to the United States and continued on in the restaurant business. While working in many different capacities at Nero’s of Livingston throughout the 70s and early ’80s, he created several signature recipes. His creations include Snapper Julio, the chopped salad, and the famous Julio’s Salad, which consists of spinach, iceberg lettuce, artichoke hearts, onions, fresh mushrooms, provolone cheese, bacon bits and parmesan cheese, tossed with house dressing.

In addition to his signature dishes, Julio’s serves traditional Italian fare. Fresh fish is also offered daily, such as branzini sea bass, which is flown in from Mediterranean countries such as Spain and Greece. Also available are red snapper, lemon sole and wild salmon, as well as fresh soft-shell crabs when they are in season. For those in the mood for a meat dish, Julio’s serves Black Angus steak, filet mignon, veal chops, chicken “aglio olio” and the superb double French-cut pork chop loin. The option of whole wheat pasta is available.

Julio’s Italian Restaurant boasts a full bar and a distinctive wine list. Reservations are accepted and walk-ins are always welcome. Ample parking is available. For those who want to add Julio’s signature cuisine to a gathering at a different location, the restaurant offers catering services. For more information, call 973-325-1307.
